Presenting him as an unknown in his first tour of the United States in 1964, I was so impressed I did what I have never done before or since for any new recording artist. I went to his dressing room and predicted to him that he would be a superstar soon.
He never forgot and in 1978 Tom Jones volunteered to do a March of Dimes promotion for me at KFI following a stream of worldwide hits, “It’s Not Unusual”, “What’s New Pussy Cat”, “Green, Green Grass of Home”, “Delilah”, “Love Me Tonight”, “I’ll never fall in love again”, “Without Love, There is Nothing”, “She’s a Lady” and more than 30 trips to the Hit Parade.
He was indeed a superstar, a gentleman AND a great friend to have.
