A dozen years ago this weekend Sharon Sheeley departed to join her fiance Eddie Cochran who died 54 years earlier. Both were dear special friends of mine that I think of all the time.
At just eighteen years of age Sharon was the youngest female in music history to compose and write a number one million selling single, “Poor Little Fool” for Ricky Nelson in 1958. Besides Eddie Cochran, Glen Campbell, Ricky Nelson, Brenda Lee, Richie Valens & The Fleetwoods, several others landed on the Hit Parade with songs created by Sharon Sheeley. She also authored a best seller book “Summertime Blues” telling of her life with Eddie Cochran.
Elvis Presley and Phil Everly both told me of their appreciation of Sharon Sheeley. Before she ushered in a new era for female song writers in the early years of rock music, few had success or their efforts even being considered by recording stars.
I miss you sweetheart, but know you are now with Eddie. Rest in Peace.
